Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Multi-agency Adult Safeguarding Procedure for Raising a Concern and Referring

This document sets out the joint Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Safeguarding Adult Boards’ procedure for all organisations to follow when they have a concern that an adult with care and support needs is at risk of abuse and/or neglect in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. (See 2.1 within the document for the definition of an adult at risk of abuse).

Transitional Safeguarding

This multi-agency guidance is part of the Interagency Safeguarding Children Procedures of the Nottinghamshire Safeguarding Children Partnership (NSCP) and the Nottingham City Safeguarding Children Partnership (NCSCP) and is supported by Nottingham City SAB.

Improving Agencies’ Engagement with Service Users Framework

This framework sets out a multi-agency approach to supporting adults who experience difficulties engaging with services in Nottingham City. Nottingham City Domestic and Sexual Violence and Abuse Safeguarding Group developed this framework, which has been fully endorsed by the Nottingham City Safeguarding Adults Board.

Out-of-area Safeguarding Adults Arrangement Protocol

The Association of Directors of Adult Social Services have published their updated Out-of-Area Safeguarding Adults Arrangements Protocol which aims to compliment statutory guidance by recognising the particular safeguarding risks and needs that arise where people’s care and support arrangements cross local authority boundaries.

Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, Multi-Agency Safeguarding Adults at Risk, have produced a document on Self-Neglect Advice and Toolkit for those working with adults who self-neglect.

This framework has been developed by partners including Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue service and sets out a multi-agency protocol for working in person centred way with people who hoard.

The National Safeguarding Adults Board Managers Network have produced a toolkit to support with implementing professional curiosity. This should be used in conjunction with your own agency escalation process where appropriate.

Nottingham City Practice Guidance: Persons in Positions of Trust

The purpose of this guidance is to:

  • Advise employers/volunteer organisations and student bodies of their responsibilities as set out in the Care Act 2014, to assess potential risks posed by a person in a position of trust to those who use their services, and, if necessary, to take action to prevent abuse or neglect.
  • Provide guidance by which concerns about a person in a position of trust can be appropriately shared with an employer/volunteer organisation or student body to prevent abuse or neglect.

This guidance is designed to inform and support the decision-making of Board member organisations and wider partner agencies once they become aware of a concern within the scope of this guidance.

Nottingham City SAB Escalation and Complaints Process

This Board Complaints policy only deals with complaints which are specifically about the Board, or a Board process.  This is likely to be limited to complaints about Safeguarding Adult Reviews, about Safeguarding Adult Review processes or about other publications or campaigns led by the Board. 

Trauma Informed Toolkit for Professionals: Culturally Competent (Al-Hurraya)

This toolkit was developed through the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Trauma Informed Partnership and is designed to equip you with the knowledge, understanding, and practical strategies necessary to provide truly effective and culturally sensitive support to individuals and communities who have experienced trauma, particularly within ethnically diverse populations.
