This year the Stop Loan Sharks Week is from 11 May through to 17 May.

The theme of this year’s Stop Loan Sharks Week is Game Over for Loan Sharks.

To bring this message to life, the England Illegal Money Lending Team have worked with Digital Arts Box to create an interactive computer game that shows – in a fun and accessible way – the challenges people face when they are trapped in debt to an illegal money lender.

Young people can play the game to learn about the dangers and pitfalls of loan sharks, while also gaining valuable computer coding experience. They’ll have the opportunity to edit the game and change different elements themselves.

The Illegal Money Lending Team are also launching a competition encouraging schools and colleges to get students of all ages involved by creating and submitting their own versions of the game. Amazon vouchers will be awarded to pupils and schools that submit the winning entries. If you know a school or college that would enjoy taking part, please do share this opportunity with them.

Loan sharks play games with people’s lives – adapting and changing tactics, just like in a computer game.  By working together, we can make it game over for loan sharks.
